Harris House, in Livermore Falls, Maine, is well known for community involvement of our Residents, which is fostered and supported by many dedicated employees. Upon admission residents and their families become a part of a unique, extended family. The individuals who provide exceptional care and services for which Harris House is known, provide opportunities for integration into events at home and away, and provide everyday “home-oriented” activities.
As a 16-bed Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF/IID), Harris House supports all of the residents with specialized equipment, assistance with devices for therapeutic positioning, and many various items specific for their physical, occupational, and speech therapy needs. The residents of Harris House, with their complex health issues and developmental challenges, are provided with 24-hour nursing services and ongoing education in the form of Active Treatment. The programming department is directed by a Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional (QIDP), who along with the programming staff, is instrumental in developing habilitation plans specifically designed to meet the needs and capabilities of the individual resident. Through the dedication and expertise of the programming staff the residents of Harris House are assisted with advancing their proficiency in activities of daily living, communication, and self-concepts.
Recently added to the Harris House family is the Bright Futures Day Program. This is a Day Habilitation Program which is provided to every Harris House resident. Each resident attends a four hour session Monday through Friday. The staff of Bright Futures works closely with the programming staff of Harris House to ensure the continued growth of each person in the program. Bright Futures is also dedicated to the integration of our residents into their community. Residents enjoy volunteer work at the local animal shelter and the local hospital. In addition, the residents stay active with swimming at the local fitness center, Special Olympics, involvement with children in the local schools, and many other activities that support the community.
